2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06Back in January, my dad placed an order for his 2015 Corvette Z06 with the new 8 speed automatic.  He ordered a base Z06 without a lot of options because the car comes very nicely equipped already.  Besides the automatic, one of the other big options he included was the Performance Data Recorder.  We knew it was built on Friday, March 27th which ended up being a couple days earlier than anticipated.  We knew it would arrive any day during the week of March 30th and were anxiously waiting.  The dealership my dad ordered through is currently dealing with a mechanics union strike so the delivery truck drivers will not unload at the dealership because they are union drivers and won't cross the picket line.  On Thursday, April 2nd my dad happened to drive past the Walmart which is next door to the dealership and he noticed a truckload of Corvette's on it.  He quickly whipped into the Walmart parking lot and found out they were unloading his car.  Being that my family is in the car business and has a close relationship with the dealer, my dad made a quick phone call to the GM and snagged his own car right off of the truck.  The car never actually made it to the Chevy dealer!

He brought the car straight to our own shop with the cover still on it and we began to do our own dealer prep on it.  The Vettes come shipped in a nice, reusable car cover that unzips to allow you into the drivers side door and is designed to be able to be driven with it on.  Once in our shop, I was surprised to see how much of the car needed to be assembled at the dealer.  It makes sense but 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the shipping cover still on.many of the front spoiler and air damn pieces are not installed at the factory to allow them to fit on the car haulers.  After removing the white car cover, we began to remove all of the factory stickers including the vehicle window sticker. We put the floor mats in place and popped the wheel center caps in.  From there we got it on the lift to began installing the factory spoilers.  We started by installing the front air dam, and the front chin spoiler.  Then we added the front brake cooling ducts.  My dad had also already bought the RTM Composite C7 Side Rocker Panels from Speed Inc. that came in Satin black and we had planned to install them right away.  We planned to leave them in the Satin black as the color matched the gray chin spoiler and wheel well accents but decided they would look better if they were painted in the Carbon Flash Metallic color that all of the other accents are painted in.  This meant we would have to wait on installing those.

At this point we decided it was finally time to take her for a spin.  We just headed down the street to the gas station for her first fill up.  It was a cool 40 degree evening and my dads first easy stab of the pedal just resulted in tire spin.  He tried again, pusing the pedal only about 1/4 throttle and the tire just wanted to go up in smoke and the back end began to dance.  We pulled into the gas station and 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06gassed her up with her first full tank of premium gas.  While we were gassing her up he realized that he had forgotten his drivers license... "Oh, no!" I replied, "I guess I'll have to drive her now."  After taking a few #ThirstyThursday pics for Instagram while gassing her up, I jumped in the drivers seat for my short ride back to the shop.  Pulling out of the gas station, my initial impression is that the overall feel of the car is not a whole lot different than the Centennial Edition Grand Sport that he traded in.  Chevy has continued to update and refine the interior but in comparison to the 2012 GS it immediately felt like home.  Then I leaned into the gas a little... I immediately noticed the whine from the Eaton supercharger as the tires quickly broke loose.  Now I could feel the difference!  I made the left hand turn on to my last straightaway and of course there were 2 cops hanging out in the parking lot.  So I would have to get some further impressions another day.

I posted the above video to Youtube about a week ago and I have had people arguing with me saying there is no way the Z06 is stock.  I referred them to the vid of the car still under the cover with only 4 miles on it.  The car sounds absolutely incredible in stock form, there is no reason to change the exhaust out on the C7 Z06.

We took the Z out to the Omega Motorsport NoFlyZone Midwest in the Fall of 2015.  We had a blast running the Z consistently at 155 mph all day long but all of the big boys wanted a piece of it.  Here's a few videos of the Z getting beat up on from the Performance Data Recorder footage:
